Boing! Goes the South Slope
By maclaren • Mar 30th, 2008 • Category: Spotted in the Hood •Today we were strolling through the South Slope and ran across a new outpost of Boing Boing called simply Boing. We met Karen, the owner, who welcomed us into the store and showed us around, even though she hadn’t even finished setting the place up. We used to live in the North Slope, and being parents, had shopped at Boing Boing many times. This will be a welcome addition to our end of the hood, given how few baby stores have made it to our neck of the woods. Let me tell you, I’m tired of trekking up to the North Slope for baby supplies.

The new store will be a bit different than the original. She has a large nursing room in the back, which I really could have used a few months back when searching for a place to nurse while my infant screamed hysterically. Then I ended up nursing on someone’s stoop. Now I would have a nice place to stop in and relax. She has baby gear in front, stocked with items she grabbed from her original store. She indicated that she plans to organize new moms groups and have breastfeeding support groups there too. How nice! I credit Boing Boing with the wonderful group of women I met when I had my first child, and from that group several lasting friendships, so I will always have a positive association with Boing Boing.
The owner, Karen, seems warm and friendly and she’s having a party Sunday for her grand opening. Perhaps we shall stop by!
