I noticed last week while on the way back from Terrace Dance Studio that the Thai restaurant has changed names, so when a friend wanted to take me some place close for my birthday lunch, naturally I suggested the new Thai place, Dice. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The place that was there before was tired and didn’t have enough flavor.

Dice did not disappoint, and was in fact so good I brought my husband back the next day.

The first time, I had the Ginger Chicken lunch special. It was a mere $5.95, and included a salad and spring roll. I was expecting the usual iceberg smothered in peanut sauce, but was pleasantly surprised to find a mixed green salad with a peanut based dressing that was quite tasty! The salad and spring roll were served on a rectangular white plate which really changed the tone of the dish, so to speak. The ginger chicken was really good, too, with chunks of fresh ginger in the sauce. The chicken was all white meat and cooked perfectly.

The second time I ordered Pineapple Fried Rice, and finished my plate. I never finish my plate, because normally there are just things I find in my fried rice that I don’t recognize or aren’t interested in consuming, such as peas or onions. This time, only the onions were left on my plate and I loved the dish! For dessert, we had fried bananas and ice cream. The fried banana was really yummy, although the ice cream would have worked better had it been a coconut flavor instead of plain vanilla. My husband would fall over reading that sentence, since I love vanilla, but I really don’t think vanilla went with the bananas. It was certainly delicious, though. We cleaned our plate. My husband had the drunken noodle, and said he loved that it was spicy enough, which he rarely finds in food in New York.
