Enzo’s Opens on PPW

The long awaited brick oven pizza place, Enzo’s, finally opened in Windsor Terrace. We have been there three times now, and have had some positive and negative experiences there. The staff is very friendly, and the pies are great. The food has been tasty every time.

The service, however, is horrendous! Every time we have been there, we’ve waited over 15 minutes just to get a menu, and then even longer to order. The waiters don’t know how to multi-task, so if you try to stop them on their way to do something for another table, forget about it. They have to finish the first thing and then they come back to you. Every time we have been it has taken us about 2 hours to complete a meal, and with kids in tow that makes for a long meal.

That being said, we will go back many times, I’m sure, because the food was really tasty, which is hard to find in our neck of the woods. If only they delivered …

Update -

We’ve been to Enzo’s several times now. Personal favorite is Saturday late lunch, there’s a 25% discount and the laughable service seems “leisurely” and capping a long greasy ballet with their excellent coffee makes for a pleasant relaxing afternoon. Just remember to bring yourself a nice bottle of springy wine for the main course, and you’ll be in great shape.

We’re partisans of pizza, and we’ve never been disappointed by their excellent and affordable pie. The only complaint is that the pizza chefs still seem a little green, so several times one side has been a bit more cooked than the other, but well within tolerance. Also very happy with their fried mozarella - they’re little cubes of fresh mozz (huge portion) lightly fried, almost tempura-style.

Service, though, is crazy. They don’t seem to have any desire to pay attention to the most basic tempo of the meal. Leaving aside the long wait for a menu, and the weird resistance on the part of one of the waiters to actually taking a drink and appetizer order together, what really gets me is the wait for the main event. For a pizza that cooks for just a couple of minutes in the zillion degree oven, they always wait 20 minutes after you’ve finished your appetizer to nudge this part along.

The last I know semi-scientifically - a neighbor of mine called in a take out order, which they botched. Once he arrived, they made the pie fresh, cooked it, and he was on his way in less than 7 minutes. Clearly the pie chef is not the problem.

Safe to say the service at Lucali crushes Enzo (as frankly does the pie, and I’m looking forward to summer when all of you lot go away and I can get back in without a 90 min. wait).
