Plans include a major rebuilding of the Smith/9th Street Station, as well as a significant revamping of the 4th Avenue Station. Work on the line is expected to begin toward the end of 2008, and NYCT hopes to complete the project sometime in 2012.

During the first phase of the project, from November 2008 to August 2010, F service will run as normal, and G train service will be extended to Church Avenue indefinitely. During later phases of the work, there will be some reconfigurations of service, and temporary suspensions of service to certain stations for several months of work. The good news is that 7th Avenue will have continuous service throughout, as will 4th Avenue, though at times 4th Avenue strap-hangers will have to use a temporary platform. And longer term, there’s a good chance that we will see F Express service become a reality once the rehabilitation work is completed.
